Shindig’s statement about Pontins
Equality is a core value at Shindig. We believe that businesses can be powerful platforms for social change and using our own platform to raise a banner for equality is hugely important to us. Creating a culture of equality isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s also the smart thing to do – we are all better people for listening, experiencing and embracing diversity and difference. This is important to us as the Directors of Shindig and as human beings – the world does not need more division, hate or fear right now.
We are aware of the recent media reports surrounding Pontins and their policies regarding the traveller community. Shindig Productions Ltd does not share these outdated and offensive views in any way. Our events are open to everyone and will always remain 100% inclusive. We have debated this internally over the last few weeks and for us, Brean Sands is just the venue but Shindig is the event. We have always worked to create events that reflect the communities around us, which includes people of the Traveller and Romany communities, and want everyone feel safe and welcomed at our events. There is more work to be done in the world to ensure that everyone is treated equally with respect and these discussions go a long way to making the world a better place for everyone. By working with brands like Pontins we hope we can share the core Shindig values to educate and go some way to help address some of the mistakes that have been made in the past. To be engaged, you must feel included and valued. We strive to build and nurture a culture where inclusiveness and equality is a reflex, not an initiative.
When will happen if there’s another lockdown or Covid-related shutdown etc…?
The event will only run without social distancing. Due to it taking place at Pontins, it isn’t classed as a mass gathering. So we are confident the event will be able to go ahead in October. But we know after the last few years things can change quickly… If for any reason the event can’t go ahead due to Covid related issues, you will get a full refund on the ticket or the option to transfer your ticket to an equivalent event in the future (but not the main festival).
